Superintendent's Message
Governor Morehead School welcomes the 2024-2025 school year!
We are excited to continue the expansion of programming and opportunities for students on campus and in the surrounding community. As we continue to implement the GMS strategic plan, we are looking forward to improved academics, daily living skills, employment outcomes for all of our students. The school continues to implement its plan of facility improvements regarding technology and academic spaces to serve our students while addressing their visual impairment needs. As we upgrade our technology, it will allow us to increase engagement opportunities for all our students, parents and community stakeholders. We invite students, parents, and community supporters alike to view our strategic plan GMS STRATEGIC PLAN and become engaged in assisting our school transform and enhance how we serve the visually impaired students of North Carolina.
Our continued focus on literacy and personalized learning opportunities for our students is paramount. As we continue to instruct students who would benefit from braille instruction, we strive to support and teach our students to use current technological advances that support their overall growth in academics, social-emotional skills, and orientation-mobility skills.
As the school ended a successful outdoor learning environment project designed specifically for students with visual impairments, we now turn our attention to the development of the GMS workforce training center which will add to the diversity of our opportunities to the students we serve. This center will directly impact our students’ preparedness for post-secondary employment skills.
We encourage students and parents, statewide, to connect and reach out to our enrollment coordinator to find out more details about the new changes coming to the campus, schedule a tour, and learn about how to start the application process. GMS ADMISSIONS
Let’s go GMS Chargers!
