GMS Students Present at NC's Business Committee for Education (NCBCE)

While most GMS students were home enjoying their first week of summer vacation, twonstudents volunteered to represent the GMS Braille Writer Repair Tech Team at the annual meeting of the North Carolina Business Committee for Education at the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh. GMS was one of only 3 schools statewide invited to attend and speak at the luncheon. The students spoke before a group of business leaders representing Lenovo, Apple, Caterpillar Inc, Verizon, and many more. The students shared their experiences about working with their team including what was most challenging and what was most rewarding. This opportunity was extended because of how well GMS has prepared them for communicating and interacting with others in a professional environment.

A special thanks to the parents who brought their students to Raleigh over the summer and entertained themselves while the students attended the NCBCE Luncheon. This would not have been possible without your dedication and support.

At the NCBCE luncheon, the GMS student representatives got an opportunity to interact with the business leaders and chat with Governor Roy Cooper. The attendees at the luncheon were so impressed with the students that they shared this information about the students and their team with their colleagues. As word quickly spread, the Braille Writer Repair Tech Team received an invitation to attend and speak at the North Carolina Digital Government Summit on August 15, 2024. As stated on their website, the Summit "brings together technology focused public-sector professionals with leading industry partners to connect on innovative approaches, get inspired and discover new technologies." We are sure the GMS Braille Writer Repair Team will impress the attendees of the Summit when they do a short demonstration of their work and serve on a panel with 2 other student teams from across North Carolina. The panel will be moderated by James Weaver, Secretary and Chief Information Officer, Department of Information Technology, State of North Carolina. Who knows, the Governor might even show up to hear the group again!
